Strata: What I Found On My Street

These images are found paintings. They evolved through a combination of chance, observation, intention, and a leap toward meaning. They involve an artist’s typical decisions such as size, format, color and media that are paths to their particular end result. Extracted from their original settings along the street—from lamp posts, signs, fire hydrants, and other objects of everyday infrastructure—these images evidence layers of their past, stories of decay and regeneration. Although their stories are mute, the images are themselves revelations, allowing us to wander among the shapes, feel the surfaces and textures, savor the colors and imagine various worlds.
Reclamations links to 3-dimensional pieces created from pieces of metal also found in or near my street.
